Welcome TO ECORSE public SCHOOLS!

Ecorse families due to the current COVID situation we are preparing to offer a remote learning option for the 2nd semester (January 31-June 22)

The details of this option are as follows:
6-12  - We are exploring 2 options
1. Students will complete their year on APEX - this is a computer based program with NO live instruction from a teacher
2. If numbers requesting virtual allow -  students will receive live online instruction from an Ecorse teacher. For this option to work there must be enough students at each grade level to allow the scheduling of a teacher for 1 section of virtual instruction.

CTE students MUST be in person to attain state mandated contact hours

Online instruction from an Ecorse teacher through Google Meet/Classroom
Depending on number of students classes may include multiple grade levels
There is a good chance that your child's teacher will be different from their current teacher

All students who choose one of the options will have to come into the buildings to complete state and local assessments (MSTEP, PSAT, SAT, iReady etc.)

If you choose the remote option for your student they must remain remote for the remainder of the school year - NO EXCPTIONS

Any family choosing remote option will have to come into their students school to fill out an application for our Downriver Digital Academy

Please complete the linked form below to let us know what your choice for the 2nd semester is.

Topic: Our commitment to safety

Dear Ecorse families:

As you likely have already heard, there was a school shooting incident yesterday, November 30, 2021 at Oxford High School. During this difficult time, our thoughts remain with Oxford students, teachers, staff and community members who were impacted by yesterday’s devastating events.

We understand news of this nature so close to home can be difficult for both parents and students. Please know that your student’s safety and well-being remain our number one priority.  Like all school districts, the Ecorse Public Schools is committed to creating a safe school environment where students can learn and grow.

We also want to remind you of the various safety protocols we have in place to protect students, teachers and staff. Our safety measures include, but are not limited to:  locked doors during the school day at each building, metal detectors at Ecorse High School, security guards at Ecorse High and part time at Grandport Academy, staff active shooter training and social- emotional mental health resources for students via Black Family Development.

While we are confident in these safety protocols, we know that we need the support of the entire community to protect the children we are privileged to serve. Thus, we would ask that you speak to your children and urge them to reach out to school officials directly or through the State of Michigan’s Okay2Say tip line at 8-555-OK2SAY or OKAY2SAY@mi.gov if they hear of any potential dangerous actions that may put our school community at harm.  Again, we take all incidents involving student and staff safety seriously and appreciate our partnerships with local law enforcement officials. We ask students, parents, and community members to report all suspicious or threatening activity to law enforcement and/or school/district administration immediately.

Your children are our children, and we will continue to do everything in our control to maintain safety in our schools. These are resources to help you discuss issues of school safety with your children:

We remain committed to working together as a community to ensure learning takes place in a safe environment. Thank you for your partnership with us on behalf of our children.  If you have any questions, contact my office at 313-294-4700 or jtalison@eps.k12.mi.us
